ABOUT THIS TRAINING:

Overall, participants will learn best practices in assessing students for Emotional Disturbance and Other Health Impairment. Specifically, participants will learn the evolution of the Emotional Disturbance category and factors that influence assessment will be addressed. Further, properly understanding and applying the qualifying criteria will be presented.

The federal definition and educational criteria for Other Health Impairment will be presented to increase participants’ knowledge of the category. Participants will learn how to legally and ethically utilize the OHI category and what information must be present in the report. Strategies and techniques for thorough assessment will be presented. Finally, the participants will learn to differentiate between the ED and OHI qualification. 


ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Michael Giambona, Ph.D. is a school psychologist with more than 15 years of experience working in schools. He has created and supervised mental health programs, ERMHS assessment teams, and ERMHS providers. Dr. Giambona is a graduate of the University of the Pacific; his dissertation focused on the long term academic impact of chronic victimization. Dr. Giambona specializes in the identification and treatment of students with mental health disorders in the educational setting.
